Audience:
Based on the type of content Touch FM broadcasts I would say they have a large Target Audience. I think this because, they play a large variety of music Genres and ages of music ranging from old rock to modern RnB. This is also helped by the variety of adverts found on the show, displaying car dealers, restaurants, bars, banks etc. Judging by the News and the type of callers they host I have also noticed an older end of their audience using the show for traffic, news etc. along side students listening for entertainment. I would place Touch FMs audience across the middle class, ages 16-40 and location specifically stratford and warwickshire.
Voice:
The voices used by Ben and Louisa in their show are much closer to a stereotypical radio voice than the shows I have previously analysed. They frequently used emphasised pitch changes to state inflections and excitement. While this is an incredibly unrealistic way to have a conversation their intention is not the involve the audience as a friend, they use their pitch to give a more interesting sound to their show and maintain the audiences attention, however compared to the previous two shows I feel that this tone is a little more forced and less comfortable to listen to (verging on the annoying).
Their projection around the same as the DJs on The Chris Moyles Show, but less varied; both maintain a similar distance to their mics. This, to an extent, creates a personal tone with out crossing into intimacy.
Pace in this show is much quicker, aiming to share as much information as possible in as shorter time as possible. The information is not inaudible as they still use good diction, however they tell it in a less efficient manner to Margherita from Classic Fm. This speeded up pace also helps keep the audiences attention and for some this may be effective however for myself personally I find this type of speech much more irritating to that used on Radio 1s morning and afternoon shows (afternoon being Scott Mills).
Mode of Address:
This mode of address is, similarly to Chris Moyles' show, on the informal side of the scale, this puts the audience at ease and suits a driving audience. The speech is, again like Radio 1, mixing between direct and indirect as the presenters can alternate between talking to each other and the audience, this helps make the show feel less awkward. Shows with only one presenter run the risk of feeling awkward, like a one on one conversation between yourself and a person you don't know well. This informal mixture of direct and indirect conversation does promote the chatty friendly feel of the show.
Institutional Context:
Touch Is a local Broadcaster, while it can broadcast worldwide with its internet stream, it limits its target audience to Stratford and Warwick. This enables them to give specific news and traffic updates that are very closely relevant to their listeners, rather than choosing to broadcast widely to a large audience, they choose to broadcast specifically to a certain area efficiently providing relevant information.
Audience Interaction:
Like most internet radio shows at the moment Touch FM is a cross Media Platform. It has a website with extensive local news (http://www.102touchfm.co.uk/newscentre), Pictures involving the show and the local area (http://www.102touchfm.co.uk/photos) and information about the shows and DJs (http://www.102touchfm.co.uk/djs).
The Advanced Online Pop-out player includes the title of the current track, a list of previously played tracks, a star rating system for each song and a link to buy any song featured. The interactivity displayed here helps create a personal connection with the show, it makes the audience member feel as if their opinions are valued and being listened to. It it also a great research technique for the station Itself.
There a a few other ways to interact with the station, including an SMS text number and a phone number, giving people the chance to talk to DJs, get involved with games, give opinions etc.
